From stagecoach stop to thriving community
The area was settled by pioneers including Thomas Williams and Joseph Bradley. Originally known as "Bradley's Stand" and "Turnbull Horse Stamp," the settlement served as an important stagecoach stop between Clarksville and Nashville, providing rest and mail services for travelers.
Local citizens officially renamed the community Pleasant View, reflecting the area's scenic beauty and welcoming atmosphere.
The first post office opened, marking a key milestone in formalizing Pleasant View as an established settlement.
Pleasant View developed as an agricultural center, particularly known for dark tobacco production. By 1886, the town boasted five tobacco factories processing over 400 hogsheads annually, with a population of approximately 300 residents.
Pleasant View was incorporated under a house bill, consisting of approximately 105 acres. The local government included a mayor and six aldermen, divided into three wards. The town was unincorporated ten years later in 1931.
Citizens voted to re-incorporate under a public act Mayor-Aldermanic Charter. David Davis served as the first mayor of the newly incorporated town, with an initial population of approximately 2,150 residents. This marked the beginning of Pleasant View's modern era.
Today, Pleasant View is a thriving suburban community within the Nashville metropolitan area. The Pleasant View Village serves as a vibrant hub of businesses and residences, featuring restaurants, medical offices, retail shops, and more.
